In the 2014 Afghan elections, presidential candidates made substantial commitments to government reforms, economic growth, and an improved future for Afghanistan.
To maintain trust in the electoral process and strengthen democratic values, Lapis designed a program to help Afghans hold their leaders accountable.
We developed an interactive website, GovMeter, in collaboration with TOLONews.
This digital tool tracked one-hundred prioritized promises by the National Unity Government and importantly, included citizens’ feedback on the government’s progress (or lack thereof).
Part of the project involved training civil society groups to also track these promises, so that they could contribute stories and analysis.
The Afghan government recognized the positive contribution made by the tool and provided regular updates on achievements and failures.
