Empowerment through entertainment

B 100 Ragl” (Worth 100 men) was a Womanity Foundation radio series that followed the story of Noha, an intrepid young radio journalist, who confronts gender discrimination in the workforce, in family, and the social sphere. Noha challenged prejudice and oppression and became a role model for the whole community.

To expand the reach of the program, Lapis created a crowd-sourcing competition using the program’s Facebook page to build hype and identify new topics for an animated online version of the radio series. Based on the fan contributions, Lapis developed and disseminated the animated series on popular online channels in the Arab world

The show’s Facebook page gained 5,000 new followers over 3.5 months. More importantly, these new followers and subsequently new viewers were from the target audience of 18-24-year-old men and women in the Middle East.

The series was released online across the Arab region in Ramadan 2016 and was viewed 1.9 million times. Feedback from the audience was mostly positive with hundreds of thoughtful reactions to the themes presented in each week’s episode.
