Lapis developed and implemented a nationwide awareness and empowerment campaign on behalf of the USAID LENS program to improve the visibility of women in non-traditional trades.
The campaign tackled barriers hindering women’s participation in the labor market and promoted increased participation of women in these trades.
The campaign contributed to breaking gender stereotypes through community events, social media messaging and sharing success stories of women working in non-traditional sectors. These included professions that are considered particularly non-traditional, such as plumbing and carpentry.
These stories captured a compelling narrative about these women’s lives, what influenced them to work in a non-traditional trade, and how it has impacted them for the better.
Lapis also conducted a formative market study across six governorates in Jordan to gauge the public’s perceptions of women working in non-traditional trades.
