Lapis partnered with the UNICEF Community-Led Total Sanitation program supporting seven provinces to promote and increase positive sanitation health practices. Lapis transformed complex materials into character-based animated storybooks and video. In the resulting Hygiene Heroes, a young Burundian girl named Keza shares how her community previously suffered from disease from open-air defecation. Keza then explains how the community-led approach transformed lives in her community. Lapis educated children and low-literacy audiences on handwashing and latrine use, fostering community-led improvements and inspiring youth to become hygiene heroes to improve community sanitation and hygiene practices.
