Dr Abdulsamad Hami is a public health expert and programme leader with over two decades of experience driving health systems strengthening, community engagement, and donor-funded programmes across fragile and conflict-affected settings. As Practice Lead for Health at Lapis Group, he provides strategic direction to initiatives that strengthen service delivery, promote vaccine acceptance, and improve maternal and child health outcomes through innovative communication and workforce development strategies.
Dr Hami has led large-scale programmes with organisations including Global Health Partnerships, Médecins Sans Frontières, Save the Children, HealthNet TPO, and the Agency for Assistance and Development of Afghanistan. His career spans health programme management, medical education, and humanitarian health responses, working closely with ministries of health, the Gates Foundation, EU, UNICEF, WHO, and other global partners.
A Chevening Scholar, Dr Hami holds an MSc in Public Health in Developing Countries and a Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene from the University of London, a Diploma in Humanitarian Assistance from the University of Liverpool, and a Doctor of Medicine degree from Balkh University, Afghanistan. He has completed advanced training at Harvard, Oxford, and Johns Hopkins.
Recognised for his leadership and service, Dr Hami has received awards from the Afghanistan National Assembly and Save the Children UK, and he continues to champion culturally grounded, community-led approaches to improve health outcomes and equity.
