Hope Hempstone is a master’s-prepared nurse with over 20 years’ experience in social and behavior change (SBC) research and programming. Hope’s specialties include SBC strategy development; design and assessment of interpersonal communication interventions; and individual-, institutional- and systems-level capacity strengthening for SBC. She is particularly skilled in applying behavior change theory and practice in health service delivery, and is a recognized leader in interventions to enhance provider motivation and performance.
Hope served as the Agreement Officer’s Representative (AOR) of USAID’s health sector-wide SBC flagship projects for nearly a decade, during which time she designed large-scale, complex SBC programs in more than 15 countries in Africa and Asia. She has also served as an SBC consultant and technical advisor for a wide variety of implementing organizations, including FHI360, Abt, PSI, and the Johns Hopkins Center for Communication Programs. Hope holds a BA from Wesleyan University, an MHS from Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and an MSN from University of Maryland School of Nursing.
